Green days out in Cornwall

20th October 2022

Earlier this year National Rail appointed three Chief Environment Officers, whose role is to explore Britain by train and champion sustainable travel. The winners were selected by a judging panel made up of explorer and broadcaster Simon Reeve and travel vloggers Wanderlust Chloe and An Adventurous World.

One of our new Chief Environment Officers, Sophia King, took a trip to Cornwall to uncover some of the fantastic sustainable days out you can enjoy when you travel by train.

Here are some of the great things Sophia experienced, that you could enjoy too:

Wildlife Boat Tour

Embark on a unique marine wildlife adventure by sailing Catamaran in west Cornwall. You could encounter grey seals, seabirds, different species of dolphins and porpoises, ocean sunfish, minke whales, humpback whales, basking sharks and even leatherback turtles!

Minack Theatre

A trip to Cornwall wouldn’t be complete without a trip to the world-famous Minack Theatre, perched on the rugged cliffs of south-west Cornwall. The hand-built theatre hosts over 200 live performances each year and visitors can experience a show at the theatre under the stars and become a part of its extraordinary story.

Penzance Geothermal Pool

There’s no better way to relax and unwind than to take a dip in the UK’s first Geothermal lido, which is heated by extracting water from a geothermal well.  Visitors can bathe in natural salt water that has been heated to between 30 and 35 degrees all year round.
