Days out and things to do this Easter weekend 2023

24th March 2023

Wondering what to do this Easter weekend (Friday 7 to Monday 10 April)? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered. We’ve scoured Great Britain, high and low, looking for awesome activities, fun days out and brilliant things to do.

Planning to travel by train? Make sure you get your tickets in advance to get the best deals this Easter. And when you book with a Railcard you can save 1/3  on your train fare.

Good Friday

York’s Chocolate Story masterclass, York

Kick off Easter in the UK with a choctastic masterclass at York’s Chocolate Story.

The classes last 2 hours and give you a chance to try your hand at chocolate making under the guidance of an expert. If you can’t make Friday, there are slots on Saturday and Easter Sunday, too.

Nearest station: York

Easter fun at Greenwood Family Park, Snowdonia

With its forest adventures, wild rides and nature trails, Greenwood Family Park is a fun day out any time of year.

But during Easter, the fun levels get ramped up – all thanks to the Easter Eggsplorers Trail, an epic egg hunt with tons of chocolate prizes up for grabs. Book your tickets in advance to avoid missing out.

Nearest station: Bangor

Galloway Activity Centre, Galloway

If outdoor fun is your thing, head to Galloway Activity Centre on Loch Ken this Easter.

There are loads of awesome activities to have a go at, from sailing and kayaking to group hikes and outdoor laser tag. Take a look at the centre’s website and book a few mini adventures before they’re all gone.

Nearest station: Dumfries

Saturday

Lindt Gold Bunny Hunt, Hampton Court Palace, London

Let the kids loose over 60 acres of Henry VIII's spectacular gardens in search of those iconic Lindt Gold Bunny statues. Once you’ve finished the hunt, you’ll win your own chocolate statue.

The trail takes 90 minutes and is for kids aged 3 to 12. Pre-book to make sure you get a slot on Saturday.

Nearest station: Hampton Court

Easter Funday, Glasgow

For one of the most fun Easter days out in 2023, make your way to Park Villa Community Sports Hub.

There’ll be bouncy castles, soft play for under 3s, arts and crafts, face painting, games and even a visit from the Easter bunny.

Nearest stations: Cardonald, Partick

Dragon Egg Hunt, Gwrych Castle, Abergele

You’ve heard about hunting for chocolate eggs – now try dragon eggs instead.

Taking place at Gwrych Castle (as seen on I’m A Celebrity…), this is a great day out for the whole family, featuring fancy dress, puzzles, activities and a trip into the dragon’s lair. Book a ticket in advance to avoid missing out.

Nearest station: Abergele & Pensarn

Easter Sunday

Chester Zoo, Chester

Want to avoid the egg-related shenanigans this year? Head to Chester Zoo for a day of wildlife instead. While it might sound like an unusual place to go on Easter Sunday, there’s never a bad time to see animals.

And while we can’t promise you’ll see the Easter bunny, there’ll be plenty of other curious creatures to meet.

Nearest station: Chester

Edinburgh Science Festival, Edinburgh

One of the more unusual things to do in Easter 2023, Edinburgh Science Festival takes place over the Easter weekend (the full programme runs from Saturday 1 to Sunday 16 April).

This is an educational and interactive day out, combining learning with fun to tremendous effect. There are 20 events on Easter Sunday alone, including a spring trail, a rockpool ramble and a free experiment experience.

Nearest stations: Edinburgh Waverley, Edinburgh Haymarket

Easter Monday

Take a spring walk

Whether you’re looking for a short stroll in the local park or a long walk somewhere beautiful, there are plenty of options available to you no matter where you live or where you’ve travelled to.

If you’re up in Scotland, we recommend the Trossacks, the Cairngorms and the Pentland Hills near Edinburgh. In England, the Peak District, Exmoor and the Lincolnshire Wolds are all great spots to head to.

Finally, try the Brecon Beacons, Snowdonia or the Pembrokeshire Coast Path if you live in or are visiting Wales.

National Trust Easter Egg Hunts

All across the UK, National Trust properties will be running Easter egg hunts and trails.

They’re a great option for an Easter day out if you’re stuck for something to do – they take place on different days of the long weekend. Visit the National Trust website to find one near you.
