Cornwall By Train

28th September 2020

As proud sponsors of ITV’s Love Your Weekend with Alan Titchmarsh, we want to help you create a weekend that you can enjoy by sharing some of Britain’s must-see’s and hidden gems as we create a new itinerary every week inspired by the latest episode.

What’s great is that these places are not only easy to get to by train but allow you to save money on travel if you have a Railcard!

In the last episode, we saw the beautiful sights of the coast of Cornwall, one of the most picturesque counties in Britain boasting a diverse landscape of coast and countryside. There is more than one way to visit Cornwall by train, but what won’t change is the breathtaking scenery that you’re met with as you pull up to the station!

The Eden Project is a modern, architectural wonder that explores environmental issues in a way that connects us to nature, with the ultimate goal of building a better future for ourselves and the world around us.

The best way to get to the Eden Project by train is going to St Austell station, where there is a shuttle service that takes you straight there. If you’re taking the family, the Family & Friend’s Railcard will give you ⅓ off adult fares for up to 2 adults and a whopping 60% off fares for up to 4 kids aged between 5-15. That’s an incredible saving of £240.30*!

Love to surf? There are plenty of places in Cornwall to catch some waves but even if surfing isn’t your thing, you can hang loose around the beach towns of St Ives, Newquay and Falmouth, all of which have the sea within walking distance from each train station.

It wouldn’t be a trip to Cornwall without having the infamous Cornish Pasty, whose history is rooted in the county’s mining towns. Traditionally filled with meat and vegetables, it was an ingenious way for those working in the mines to have a full meal.

Cornwall’s countryside is one of the county’s best-kept secrets. Liskeard is a beautiful town that is easily reached by train and is a great place for learning about Cornwall’s mining history. Situated in the south-east above the Looe Valley, you can take in all of the sites by hopping on the Great Scenic Railway, follow one of the many walking trails around the town, or head out by bus to Bodmin Moor to explore the remains of the Cornish mines.

The next episode of ITV's Love Your Weekend will air on Sunday 4th October 2020.

*Railcard price savings are based on Super Off-Peak Return from London to St Austell for 2 adults and 4 kids. Prices checked on 18 September 2020 for travel on 26 September 2020.
