How to renew your Railcard

Keep the savings going when you renew your Railcard online.

You can renew your Railcard online in just minutes. It’s the fastest and easiest way – with no further ID check needed. Renew up to 30 days before your Railcard expires.

If you have an existing Railcard account, we’ll send you an email reminder to let you know that your Railcard is due for renewal. Check that your Railcard is in date before buying or using discounted tickets.

How do I renew my Railcard online?


If you got your Railcard online, you can quickly renew it with your Railcard account.

If you’re having trouble signing in, you can reset your password.


Follow these steps to renew your Railcard online

Step 1: Sign in to your account

Sign in to your Railcard account and head to ‘My Railcards’.

Step 2: Check the expiry date

You’ll see the option to renew your Railcard in your account if your Railcard has expired, or will expire in the next 30 days. Select ‘Renew Railcard’ to continue.

Step 3: Select your duration

Select how long you want your Railcard to last. For most Railcards, you can choose a 1-year Railcard or a 3-year Railcard.

Step 4: Complete your order

Enter your billing details at checkout to complete your Railcard order.

Step 5: Check your Railcard

If your order is successful, your new Railcard will appear in the My Railcards section of your account.

If you bought your Railcard at a station

If you bought your Railcard at a station, you won’t be able to renew online – but you can sign up for a Railcard account and buy a new Railcard online when the old one expires.

If someone else bought your Railcard for you online

If someone else bought your Railcard for you online, they’ll need to use their Railcard account to renew your Railcard for you.

You can renew your Railcard up to 30 days before it expires.

If you bought your Railcard at a station, you won’t be able to renew online – but you can sign up for a Railcard account and buy a new Railcard online when the old one expires. You can also buy a new Railcard at a station when yours expires.

If you bought your digital Railcard online, you generally do not need to prove your eligibility again.

If you’re a mature student with a 16-25 Railcard, you’ll need to submit a new Mature Student application form when you renew.

Yes! You can renew your 16-25 Railcard before your 26th birthday if the Railcard is due to expire in less than 30 days.


If your 16-25 Railcard has an expiry date after your 26th birthday, you can buy a 1-year 16-25 Railcard before your birthday, or buy a 26-30 Railcard once you’ve turned 26!


I have a 1-year 16-25 Railcard

You can renew or buy a new 1-year Railcard up to the day before your 26th birthday.


I have a 3-year 16-25 Railcard

You can renew or buy a new 3-year Railcard up to the day before your 24th birthday.

Yes! You can renew your 16-25 Railcard if you’re a mature student and still in full-time education. Your Railcard is valid for 1 year every time you renew.


You’ll need to fill out a mature student application form and have it signed by your college or university, and provide student ID, to renew your Railcard online.

Yes! You can renew your 26-30 Railcard before your 31st birthday if it’s due to expire within 30 days.


You won’t be able to renew your Railcard if it’s due to expire after your 31st birthday – but you may be eligible for a different Railcard.
