What is a 26-30 Railcard?

Am I eligible for a 26-30 Railcard?


If you’re aged between 26 and 30, you can get a 26-30 Railcard. It’s really that simple!

You’ll just need to provide proof of age with a valid photo ID, like your passport, UK driving licence, or EEA national identity card.

  • Buy a 26-30 Railcard any time before your 31st birthday and keep using it for a whole year.

What travel discounts can I get with a 26-30 Railcard?

  • Travel at any time. A minimum fare of £12 applies if travelling before 10am, Monday to Friday

  • Minimum fare does not apply to Advance tickets or on public holidays

  • Ticket types included:

    • Standard Anytime (Day, Single, or Return)

    • Standard Off-Peak (Day, Single, or Return)

    • Standard Super Off-Peak (Day, Single, or Return)

    • Standard and First Class Advance

  • In and around London:

    • Anytime Day Travelcards – when bought as part of your ticket from outside London Zones 1 to 9 (subject to a minimum fare of £23.60)

    • Oyster pay as you go Off-Peak (National Rail, London Underground and Docklands Light Railway)

    • Gatwick Express, Stansted Express and Heathrow Express

  • PlusBus day tickets

  • Combined rail to sea journeys:

    • some rail/sea journeys with Wightlink and Red Funnel Ferries to stations on the Isle of Wight

    • Hovertravel services to and from Ryde Hoverport

    • Stena Line ferries to the Republic of Ireland.

    • discount is only available on tickets as part of a journey from/to a National Rail station or on combined rail/sea journeys from/to Ryde Hoverport

  • Rover tickets and Ranger tickets

How to buy your 26-30 Railcard

You will need to provide ID to prove your age and eligibility, along with a passport-style photo.

• UK driving licence (excluding Northern Ireland)

• EEA national identity card

The 26-30 Railcard is only available to buy online.


To buy your Railcard, visit the 26-30 Railcard sales page and follow the instructions on screen. You will need to provide your proof of ID and a passport-style photo. 


Once your online payment has been successful you will receive an email confirmation and acknowledgement of your application number (this confirmation cannot be used to buy discounted tickets).


We will then send you another email with an activation link to download your Railcard to the Railcard app.

Yes! You can renew your 26-30 Railcard before your 31st birthday if it’s due to expire within 30 days.


You won’t be able to renew your Railcard if it’s due to expire after your 31st birthday – but you may be eligible for a different Railcard.

With your Railcard you can get 1/3 off an Anytime Day Travelcard when bought as part of your journey to London from outside London Zones 1 to 9 (subject to a minimum fare of £23.60).


You can also get your Railcard discount loaded onto your Oyster card to save 1/3 on single off-peak pay as you go fares on London Underground and Docklands Light Railway services in London. You will need to have registered your Oyster in your name to do this. Simply take your Oyster card and valid Railcard to a London Underground station and ask a member of staff to set the discount for you. You can also get the discount set at Oyster Ticket Shops and Visitor Centres.

No. You must be between 26 and 30 years old to buy a 1-year 26-30 Railcard.


But you can buy it up to and including the day before your 31st birthday and keep using it until its expiry date.

Yes, you can. However, a £12 minimum fare applies for all journeys made between 04:30 and 09:59, Monday to Friday, excluding Advance fares.


This does not apply on weekends and on public holidays.
