Conditions of issue and use of the Network Railcard

ATOC Limited enters into the contract for the issue and use of the Network Railcard on behalf of the train companies ('the Train Company', 'the Train Companies') whose trading names are listed below.*

You must sign the Railcard before use to show acceptance of all the conditions listed below.

The Railcard and tickets bought with it are not transferable and must not be given to or lent to anyone else.

The Railcard does not become your property and if requested must be handed in to a representative of any Train Company.

You must carry the Railcard with you and when asked by rail staff, you must show a valid ticket and valid Railcard, otherwise the full fare will be payable as if no Railcard and/or no ticket were held. Additional accompanying passengers for whom discounted tickets are purchased must travel with the Railcard holder throughout the journey.

The Railcard will not be valid if it is damaged. The Train Companies do not undertake to replace damaged, lost or stolen Railcards, or to issue refunds on unused/unwanted Railcards. However, application for the replacement of a Railcard may be made at a participating Network Railcard staffed station ticket office. A £5 administration fee will be payable for the replacement of a damaged or lost Railcard and the completed 'Receipt' section of the original application form must be produced. No fee will be charged for the replacement of a stolen Railcard upon presentation of a crime reference number/documentation issued by the Police. In all cases, you will be requested to show some form of identification and proof of age.

The Network Railcard is issued subject to the National Rail Conditions of Carriage and the conditions listed here.

Conditions of issue and use of reduced priced tickets ('discounted tickets') bought with a Network Railcard

Tickets for your journey should be purchased before boarding the train and when buying tickets you must show the Railcard. You must have the Railcard with you on your journey. You must always show the valid Railcard and ticket to rail staff at their request. If you do not show both the Railcard and the ticket you will be required to pay the full price Standard Single fare for your journey as if no ticket was purchased before starting the journey. This does not apply if there was no ticket office at the station at which you began your journey or if the ticket office was closed and there was no ticket machine from which you could buy discounted tickets.

You will be asked to pay the difference between the price of your discounted ticket and the full Standard Class fare (or the Penalty Fare if travelling in the Penalty Fares area) if:

a) you travel beyond the station for which your ticket is issued;
b) you travel to a destination beyond the area shown on the Network
Railcard Map, without having first obtained the correct ticket for your journey; c) you travel on a route for which a higher fare applies or at a time when reduced fares do not apply.

In all circumstances where you are unable to buy a valid discounted ticket, Condition 7 of the National Rail Conditions of Carriage explains what you should do.

Discounted tickets entitle you to travel only in Standard Class on the services of the participating Train Companies. However:

a) on Mondays to Fridays travel is not permitted on any train departing before 10:00 hours. (n.b. tickets issued any day before 23:59 hours and dated for that day may be used on trains departing before 02:30 hours the following morning.);
b) a minimum fare of £10 will apply to any discounted adult ticket purchased for travel on Mondays to Fridays other than public holidays. The minimum fare applies to each discounted adult ticket purchased and not to the total value of discounted tickets purchased. The minimum fare does not apply to discounted tickets purchased for travel on Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays;
c) on Mondays to Fridays discounted tickets cannot be used on a small number of evening peak period services, nor can discounted tickets be used on a small number of coastal services between Brighton/Portsmouth and Salisbury. You are advised to check before you purchase discounted tickets;
d) discounted tickets may be used in conjunction with any other ticket(s) for a journey to a destination beyond the designated Network Railcard area if permitted by the National Rail Conditions of Carriage;
e) discounted tickets may be used at any time on Saturdays, Sundays and on public holidays.

In the case of some lower price tickets the actual discount with the Railcard may be slightly lower than that advertised.

If you also hold a Season Ticket or Travelcard Season Ticket, you need not purchase a discounted ticket for yourself when travelling over the route covered by the your Season Ticket if accompanied by others for whom discounted tickets are being purchased, but you will be subject to the restrictions appropriate to the tickets purchased for those travelling with you. However, if you hold a Travelcard Season ticket with less than "All Zones" availability, you may only buy discounted "Off Peak Day Travelcards (All Zones only)" for accompanying passengers if you also purchase one for yourself.

Discounted tickets are not valid for use on journeys wholly between the following stations: Barbican, Blackfriars, City Thameslink, Elephant & Castle, Farringdon, Kentish Town, Kings Cross Thameslink, London Bridge and Moorgate or on any journey where Transport for London fares apply, except for "Off Peak Day Travelcards (All Zones only)" and transfer between London Terminal stations if your journey is routed "via London".

The right is reserved to revise these conditions and availability of the tickets detailed in the Network Railcard leaflet. The Train Companies will endeavour to give three months' notice of any changes before they are due to come into effect.

Tickets issued to the holder of theNetwork Railcard are issued subject to the National Rail Conditions of Carriage (and, where appropriate, to the Conditions of Carriage of Transport for London, Red Funnel Ferries and Wightlink) and the conditions listed here.

Copies of the National Rail Conditions of Carriage are available from any staffed station ticket office or online at http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/.

Alternatively, you can contact National Rail Enquiries for details of availability (08457 48 49 50).

These Conditions are valid as from 26 September 2004.
